Save a Lot

Coalinga will soon have another in-town  grocery store opening at the mall right in between the Dollar Store and Big 5. We visited Save a Lot for a sneak-peek at the newest store arrangements and preview some of the item selection and pricing. The official expected opening date is Dec 3rd 2012, but there may be a quiet soft open sooner than that if everything goes as planned.

We spoke with Coalinga Save a Lot owner Nassri Jaber. He said he was committed to offering low-prices for quality products all year-round. Offering a truck-to-shelf grocery store that will have fresh products filling the shelves and lining the store. When asked why he chose to open a store in Coalinga Jaber said, “I saw a need in Coalinga to offer quality food at a cheap price,” and that being cheap everyday, with quality customer service, would be the reason that customers would come back to his store everyday.

Nassri said he plans on being a community supporter by hiring local, using local services, and donating food to the local food banks. Currently he has 20-25 employees all hired local with a few positions left to fill and a pile of applications to go through.

Here are just a few of the departments that we saw on our visit

  • Meat Department (with a meat manager) no red dye, no repackaging, and no marinating
  • Produce Department (OK Produce) fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Bread and Bakery Section
  • Frozen Foods
  • Cereals and Baking Goods
  • Sodas Chips and Snacks
  • Milk and Dairy
  • Lunch Meats
  • Canned Goods
  • Juices
  • Paper Products and Cleaning Supplies
  • Medicines and Vitamins

Store manager Jode Mayer and Meat Manager Miguel Maldonado said that providing great customer service would be one of the major goals of the store. Jode will be on-site and available to answer any questions ranging from pricing and availability, to quality, and complaints.

Be on the lookout for upcoming sales that feature “buy 10″ deals where you save even more by buying 10 at a time, and the 5 for $19.99 frozen food packages where you can pick 5 frozen foods for $19.99. Products and pricing may vary.

Store hours will be 8:00 am to 9:00pm 7 days a week 365 days a year.
